Match Report: Titans Vs Templebar Hippys

Titans Away Vs Templebar Hippys

Match Preview:

This week we find ourselves away hosted by the Templebar Hippys. This is a new team to the league and have found it tough getting up to speed with the division. Last week it looked like they slowed down the runs against them with an 11-9 loss to Oddsox Black so we went into this game with an air of caution and a hunger to keep our 100% away record intact. Ok, we’ve only had one other away game, which we won, but after two home losses some positivity is needed!

Unfortunately the Titans would be going into this game without Talismanic leader and Pitcher Paul (Braveheart) Wallace who was last seen sporting a mankini, therefore exposing his less well known tattoo of the Red Devils crest on his arse, on the Highlands of Scotland.

Line up for the game was:

  1. Dave “The Delivery Man” – 2nd
  2. Elaine “Safe Hands” – 1st
  3. John “Pick up the bats please” Corkery – SS
  4. Johanna “Base Hunter”– RF
  5. Alan “100%”- LC
  6. Jeanette “Batting beast”- LF
  7. James “Super Sub” – C
  8. Sinead “Sponge” – 3rd
  9. Conor “Consistency” / Darragh “Cannon Arm” – RC
  10. Bull “Gentle Toss” – P

Apologies: Ricardo “Rain Man”, Suzanne “Bingo Wings”

In the lead up to this game Titan HQ received a warning that to beat the Hippys (not in the flower power era cop style) we would need to bring our hitting game to Eamonn Ceannt Park. This lead to the Titans leadership team to attempt yet another re-shuffle of the batting order in an attempt to find a consistent start. It was decided to reward Dave with his consistent hitting so far this season and promote him up to the top of the order.

In the pre-game team talk stand in Captains JC and Elaine asked for the team to start off with base hits and to keep the plays nice and simple. The team were listening well as we managed to get five home in the first inning with James getting the first Home Run of the night. This was quickly followed up with another HR in the next inning when Bull spotted the infield playing very shallow. Bull ended up grabbing another HR later in the night as did JC for a record Home Runs count in a game for the new season (I think).

The great batting continued until the 4th with a new record of 15 runs home which included the team running through the order without an out at one point. Absolutely amazing team effort here. At this point with a 34-1 count Stand-In Captain Corkery went around the team and asked them to start swinging to close out the game. Unfortunately the team took it to heart as in the remaining innings the only scored hit was by Alan keeping his 100% hitting record for the game.

Defensively the majority of the work was done in the infield with hits going to Pitcher, Short Stop and 2nd mostly ably gathered up by Elaine on one. The outfield had a reasonably quiet night and had the chance to welcome a new team member in the shape of Darragh Reddy. At one point Darragh showed us his potential with a monster throw from RC, unfortunately resulting in an overthrow at 3rd. Lots of potential in Darragh, as soon as we tame that arm.

To count out the runs in we had:

Alan 4 out of 6 and LOB 2

Johanna 4 out of 6 and LOB 1

James 4 out of 6 and LOB 1

Bull 4 out of 6 and LOB 1

JB 4 out of 6

Connor 4 out of 5

Dave 3 out of 7 and LOB 3

Sinead 2 out of 6 and LOB 1

JC 4 out of 7

Elaine 1 out of 7 and LOB 2

The game finished out 34 – 2 in favour of the Titans. We’ve a break for the week due to the bank holiday then we next face SWAT away on Monday 9th.

To celebrate our largest runs margin I’ve composed (made mincemeat of a classic) a little song;

Panic (to the tune of Panic by The Smiths)

Panic on the streets of Crumlin,

Panic on the streets of Tullamore,

I wonder to myself,

Will we see those base hits again?

The left field hit that you knock down,

I wonder to myself,

Hopes may rise on the other side,

But I’m afraid you’re not going to get a safe call,

So we run you down,

To the safety of another out,

But there’s Panic on the streets of Castleknock,

ALSAA, Marlay, Balbriggan,

I wonder to myself

Burn down the outfield,

Here’s the Renegade Titans,

Because the order that they bat in,

It says nothing about their hits,

Here’s the Renegade Titans,

With the messed up order they bat in,

On the home pitch off the Howth Road,

We’ve yet to win a round,

Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans,

Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans,

Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans,

Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans,

Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans,

Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans,

Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans,

Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans,

Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans,

Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans,

Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans,

Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans, Here’s the Titans,

Here’s the Titans
